Shed Security Statistics
With shed break-ins on the increase, home security specialist Yale is offering new shed security stand deals to help garden centres meet demand for garden and outdoor security products.
According to the British Crime Survey, thefts from sheds and gardens increased by 16% to 1.25million crimes between September 2009 and September 2010, and thefts are expected to rise further as the weather improves. On average, we store more than £2,000 worth of equipment and tools in our garden sheds, but according to research by insurance providers Esure, 10% of shedowners leave them unlocked.
The Yale shed security stand deal includes weatherproof padlocks and hasps, standalone alarms, and cables and anchors, which can be used to secure individual high value items such as lawnmowers, bikes and garden furniture. Commenting on the new stand deals, Mark Efford of Yale said: “Security is becoming increasingly important within the garden environment. Sheds and garages are tempting for would-be thieves, as their contents can have quite considerable value and they will also contain ladders and tools that can be used to gain entry to the main house.
Plus, sheds are often poorly secured and tucked away at the end of gardens or on allotments away from view, making them an easy target for burglars. “Our new stand deals include a range of easy-to-install Yale security products that will deter thieves, secure shed exteriors and protect individual items stored inside. Yale is synonymous with locks and security, and this brand recognition will provide householders with reassurance that their garden is protected.”
Yale offers an affordable Shed Kit containing everything consumers need to secure their shed, outbuilding or garage.
