Everyone wants to feel safe and secure and its pleasing to know that high security windows do not have to be unattractive. Most PVCu windows will be fitted as standard with multi-point locking systems – commonly referred to as a ‘shoot bolt’ locking systems. These locking systems secure the window at several points and provide maximum resistance against forced attack.

So what should I look for?

1. Always insist that your windows are internally glazed. Do NOT accept externally glazed windows. Internally glazed windows are more secure because the glass is secured in place from the inside – preventing burglars from removing beading, then the pane of glass to gain entry.
2. All high security windows will be accredited by Secured by Design as ‘Police Preferred Specification’. Always look for the logo pictured here.

General safety note

Most new windows will come complete with lockable window handles. Always keep keys readily accessible in case you or your family need to escape in circumstances such as fire.  It is also important to note that you should never leave the keys on view this is an open invitation for burglars.
