Glass
Isn’t all glass the same?
No, this is not the case. Whilst all glass may look the same, there are many different kinds. Some glass even has special properties – so always consider the following:
Toughened glass
Toughened glass is between 7-8 times stronger than normal standard glass. The strength of glass is gained through a unique cooling process during its manufacture process.
A further significant benefit of this glass is that, if broken, the glass will shatter into lots of blunted pieces, rather like a car windscreen – standard glass will shatter into lots of very sharp pieces, creating a potential safety hazard.
Most new windows will be fitted as standard with toughened glass. However, for complete peace of mind always insist on toughened glass for ground floor applications and anywhere young children can reach windows and external doors.
Remember, according to Home Office statistics two-thirds of burglars gain access through the back door or ground floor windows. Toughened glass and high security locks will help combat this.
